Education is a major member benefit. Offering educational webinars throughout the year helps members stay on top of industry trends and gain key knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their careers. They provide members with year-round education and can keep members engaged with your association. Are your association’s webinars keeping members engaged?
The American Alliance of Orthopaedic Executives (AAOE) recently reimagined its educational offerings to ensure members get the most out of each webinar offered. These efforts revived the webinar program and resulted in significant increases in webinar registrations and attendance. Hopefully this can spark some ideas for your own association’s webinar program!
Make Education Easily Accessible
To make it as easy as possible to get webinars on attendees’ calendars, AAOE finalized the 2018 webinar lineup before the close of 2017 so members could sign up for the free monthly webinars with a single registration. Members also had an a la carte option so they could sign up for individual webinars that made the most sense for their professional development needs.
Anyone who registers for a webinar receives a link to the recording once it’s available, so those who aren’t able to attend live still get access to the content.
Giving members an easy way to sign up for webinars throughout the year has resulted in the number of webinar registrations tripling in 2018 compared to the number of registrations in 2017.
Another successful addition to AAOE’s educational lineup has been “pop-up webinars.” AAOE members are orthopaedic practice professionals, so they’re in an industry that is constantly changing – and when these changes happen, they’re often sudden, and members need education on these hot topics right away. Pop-up webinars address this issue by creating a process where a webinar can be added in just a couple of days when the need arises.
Recently, AAOE offered two pop-up webinars on BPCI Advanced. This is a new voluntary episode payment model that greatly affected many AAOE members. Because of the pop-up webinar model, AAOE was able to offer two webinars on this pressing topic. The webinars brought together three of the largest conveners in the orthopaedic bundle market to discuss the care redesigns necessary to be successful in the model and the profile of successful participants.
These changes had a major impact in terms of member’s engagement in education, as seen through the significant increase in registrations. Based on your association’s industry, what ways can you make education more accessible and relevant for members? The examples above may not be one-size-fits all, so it’s important to consider your members’ unique needs and what will make the most sense for them.
